Question:

Why do some employers deem it necessary to check your credit report when you apply for a job?
-Tristan24

Answer:

Having good credit is a sign that prospective employees are responsible individuals who have their act together, just the sort of people that employers like to hire. Employers may also believe, probably with good reason, that someone who is free of acute financial stress is likely to be more honest and trustworthy than someone having trouble keeping up with payments every month. An employer running a business that takes in a lot of cash might find employees like that especially valuable, and such qualities would be highly coveted in fields such as law and law enforcement. The same goes, probably more so, in fields like banking, accounting and insurance, where a reputation for fiscal rectitude is vital to success.
